Puerto Rico has been a territory of the United States since 1898. It has been inhabited for at least 800 years. The Taino people are the indigenous people of Puerto Rico and had settlements on the island before European explorers showed up.

Puerto Rico was occupied by Spain until America won the Spanish American war and the territory was changed over to America under the treaty.

It is ringed by smaller islands Mona, Culebra, and Vieques but most tourists agree that San Juan is the place to go.

There are great examples of Spanish colonial architecture through out the island that will transport you back in time. This island is only 100 miles long, it is the smallest island in the Great Antilles Island chain, but there is a lot to do and see.

One of the big draws of Puerto Rico is its small size, it makes it easy for tourists to get around the island and partake in all the beauty in a short span of time.

The people of Puerto Rico are warm, friendly and welcoming. They take pride in their Hispanic heritage, enjoy cooking good food and love to dance the night away to Latin music.

The official language of the island is Spanish but most people on the island also speak and understand English.
