Wasaga Beach Webcam From Canada

Despite the name, Wasaga Beach is actually a town, located in Simcoe County, Canada. It is also situated near the longest freshwater beach in the world, making it a popular summer tourist destination. Despite that, the town’s population is quite small, at around 20000 residents.

It has been a popular destination for many years now and the coastline offers some of the most stunning vistas in Ontario and the surrounding forests offer a nice getaway from the beach dominant scenery that occupies most of the outlining area.

The location is quite historically rich as well. Wasaga Beach and the surrounding areas were inhabited by the Iroquoian-speaking Huron people up to the 1650s.

In the early 1800s, Upper Canada was drawn into a conflict between Great Britain and the United States, and in turn, the Wasaga Beach became a strategic location in the War of 1812. The sandy soil made it hardly suitable for cultivation, so the first modern settlement only started appearing around the 1820s.

The abundance of trees made it possible to kick start a local economy by venturing into the logging industry. Unfortunately, in 2007, a major fire destroyed 90 percent of the buildings along the street mall in the Beach One area, causing major damages to the small town.

When it comes to spending time in the town, perhaps one of the best-kept secrets is the endless recreation trails for hiking, cycling, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling. The trails provide easy access to key points of interest, while still enabling you to get lost in the beauty of the sand dune system and abundantly forested landscape.
